Scotland FEPOW Trust: VJ Day 79 – Lest We Forget

Today, on the 79th anniversary of VJ Day, we remember the brave men and women who endured unimaginable hardship as Far East Prisoners of War (FEPOWs) during World War II. For many, the war did not end in 1945; the trauma, the pain, and the memories lingered for a lifetime. Yet their courage, sacrifice, and resilience often remain overlooked.

In Scotland, the stories of our FEPOWs are etched into our history, though many lie untold or forgotten. These men, including the likes of Piper James McLean of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, marched with pride, fought with valor, and survived through sheer determination. They deserve more than a footnote in history — they deserve recognition, remembrance, and respect.

As we stand on the brink of the 80th anniversary next year, it is more important than ever to ensure their legacy lives on. Let us honour

them by sharing their stories, advocating for memorials, and ensuring future generations understand their sacrifices. They endured captivity so we could enjoy freedom.

We at the Scotland FEPOW Trust are committed to keeping their memory alive. We call on all who value justice, remembrance, and peace to stand with us, ensuring that our FEPOWs are never forgotten.

Lest We Forget.
